Biden Administration Urges Protective Measures Amid BA.5-Driven COVID-19 Surge
The New York Times (7/12) reports the Biden Administration “warned Americans on Tuesday that they must do more to protect themselves against COVID-19, as the highly transmissible Omicron subvariant known as BA.5 fuels a new wave of infections, re-infections and hospitalizations across the country.” The Administration recommended: “Get vaccinated or boosted even if you have already been infected; test if you feel sick; seek out therapeutics if you test positive and wear masks in crowded indoor spaces.”
The Washington Post (7/12) reports that “administration officials are weighing a plan to allow all adults to receive a second booster shot to provide greater protection against the latest surge.”
Reuters (7/12) reports, “Officials urged people who are 50 years old or older to get a booster shot and said that would not prevent them from getting another ‘bivalent’ booster designed to fend off Omicron more specifically later this year.”
The AP (7/12) and The Hill (7/12) also report.
